Presenting Videos, Photos and Slide Decks

When you're a Presenter in the Greenroom, you may be presenting videos, photos, and slide decks. In this article, we'll go over best practices and file requirements, how to upload media files, understanding the Media tab, and how to edit media.

File Requirements and Best Practices

The supported formats for Greenroom Media Tab are:

.pdf, .pptx, .key, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .mp4, .mov

Best practices when preparing MP4 video files:

  • Refrain from using special characters (_ ,%, $ etc) within the file name
  • Videos with a bitrate above 4Mb/s (4000Kb/s) will be automatically processed.
  • Greenroom can accept files up to 2GB in size
  • Video frame rate should be 30fps
  • Video should be encoded in H.264
  • Maximum video resolution can be set to 1080p

Uploading Media Files

To begin, make sure you have the files you want to upload located locally on your computer.

Greenroom supports a variety of video, photo, and slide-based formats for upload. This includes Presentation files like Microsoft Powerpoint and Apple Keynote files. If you have built a presentation using Google Slides, you'll be able to download it as either a PDF or .pptx file. Check out our article on creating and presenting slide decks in Greenroom to learn more about using slide decks in Greenroom.

When a media file is being uploaded, a walking "Telly" graphic appears letting you know your upload is in progress. Be patient with larger files, as it can take some time. Save additional time for presentations, as all the individual slides will be broken out.

Once your upload is complete, Telly will disappear and you will see a thumbnail of the file.

Using the Media Tab

Once you have your files ready, make sure you are logged into your Greenroom account and then navigate over to the Media tab.

You'll see the Media Tab divided into three sections: Files, Screenshares, and Overlays.

Files

The Files sub-tab will host any documents, images, or videos that have been uploaded into Greenroom. Hosted documents include presentation files that are imported into the Greenroom (PDF, Powerpoint, and Keynote). Hosted Images include files like JPG, JPEG, PNG, and GIF.  Hosted Videos include content that's in MP4 or MOV format.

Once your media files are uploaded to the Media Tab, the Greenroom Producer can place them within a shot or add them to the Greenroom Show. You'll be able to edit the media files you upload to the Greenroom, but not those that have been uploaded by other Greenroom users.

Screenshares

The Screenshares sub-tab will allow you to activate your screenshare. Each Greenroom user can activate their own screenshare. Users can select if they want to share their entire screen, browser tab, or application window.  Once a screenshare has been initiated, it'll show up as a Feed in the Feed tab. The Greenroom Producer can then place the screenshare within a shot on the Showboard, or take it in an already live shot in Greenroom.

There is also a Screenshare button available to Presenters, just below the Canvas with the picture of an arrow.

Overlays

The Overlays sub-tab lets you upload any image or video overlays that you want the producer to incorporate into a shot. Files supported are JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, MP4, and MOV.  MOV and PNG files can also support transparency for overlays.
