Broadcasting from the Brandlive Mobile App

The Brandlive mobile app gives you the convenience of broadcasting anywhere, anytime without all the production gear.

The app is available for download on iOS from the App Store, or on an Android device from Google Play.

To use the mobile app to broadcast an event, there are a few steps you will have to take to prepare the event.

Please note, when mobile broadcasting, the use of Wirecast (as well as simulcasting) is not available at this time. If you'd like instructions on how to use Wirecast using your desktop computer,  please visit our section Broadcasting with Wirecast.

Selecting the Event

To broadcast to an event, you will first need to create the event in the Admin Console. This will need to be done on a computer, so make sure you have access to one before going out into your environment for the event.

Before you begin, make sure you’re connected to a strong and secure Wifi source on your mobile device, or ensure you have enough data coverage to support your mobile Brandlive event.

Account Tab

In the app, navigate to the account tab mobile-account.svg located to the far right of the main tab bar on the bottom of the screen.

If you have more than one channel, make sure the proper channel (shown as your channel/company name) is selected under My channel. Otherwise, to change the channel, tap on the channel name to select from your list of channels to broadcast to.

Next, tap the Broadcast to Event option. This will take you a list of all your events.

Select Event

In the Select Events screen, a list of all available events in your channel will appear. Events scheduled for future dates will appear in darker font and shows the date and time when the event will start.

Previous events will be in lighter font and will say “Ended” in the byline.

Tap on the event you wish to broadcast to.

Before you Go Live

Once in the broadcast screen, you may want to make some adjustments before you get started.

For example, the default camera mode will be “front facing”. If you’d like to switch views, simply tap the camera icon mobile-camera-reverse.svg to switch.

You will also want to ensure you have the proper camera orientation set before you begin broadcasting. Once you start broadcasting, this orientation cannot change.

If the mobile device is facing up, it’s in portrait mode. If the mobile device is sideways, it’s in landscape mode. We suggest using Landscape mode, as it gives a video format similar to 16:9, which is standard for 720p and 1080p HD video. The Maximum Resolution you can broadcast in, depending on your mobile device, is 720p.

Going Live

To Go Live, tap the orange Go Live Now button. A countdown will start before actually going live.

You are now broadcasting

To access the comments stream, tap the comment bubble icon  mobile-chat.svg. Here you can see All Comments users have submitted as well as the questions the moderator has sent to you, in the Moderator tab.

To switch the camera shot between the front facing and back facing, simply tap the camera mobile-camera-reverse.svg icon.

Ending the Broadcast

To end the broadcast, tap the red stop button in the center. It will ask you if you’re sure you want to stop, and then just tap stop.

When you see the confirmation message, tap the View Event button to go directly to the Event view in the app. Here you can see the event as the user saw it. However, to view the video itself you will need to give this a few minutes, then edit the event in the Admin Console to display the video on the event page. Alternatively, tap Finished to go back to the list of events in the mobile app, where you can choose to broadcast to another event.

Mobile Accessory Packages

If you are using a third party mobile product when broadcasting from the Brandlive mobile app, you will want to get products that will be compatible with the mobile device. This means ensuring that each accessory you have will work together in picking up the mic source and getting it into the Brandlive Mobile App. Below are various accessories that can be used with the Brandlive Mobile App.


Here are certain dongles and adapters that are needed for certain mics to hook up to your mobile device:

  • Movo MC3 3.5mm TRS (Female) Microphone Adapter Cable to TRRS (Male) for iPhone (6 & below) & Android Smartphones
  • Rode SC4 adapter TRS to TRRS


TRS is a common connector used for stereo headphones, mono headsets, stereo microphones, auxiliary cables, etc. You’ll usually see 2 lines on the connector, which divide the three portions of the connection (Left channel, Right channel, Ground connection).

TRRS is the common connection used for stereo headsets, inline microphones, audio/video cables with stereo audio, etc. The TRRS connector has 3 lines on it that divide its connection properties (Left Channel, Right Channel, Ground Connection, and Microphone).

These adapters listed above allow the connection of a mobile mic (TRRS) to your mobile device (TRS).

Please note that this product is for listening to your iOS device’s audio only if using 3.5mm headphones, and does NOT support the use of 3rd party wired mics or mobile lav mics.

If you’re having trouble getting the Brandlive mobile app to Broadcast an event or getting an event to show up within the Brandlive mobile app, there are a few things you’ll want to check. While most things can be resolved from your mobile device, there are certain situations where you’ll need to check the Brandlive admin console, to ensure your settings are correctly displaying the information you want in the Brandlive mobile app.

Event Not Showing in the App

If you select broadcast to an event within the Brandlive mobile app and you don’t see the event you want to broadcast to, this tells us that the event has either not been set up yet within the Brandlive admin console, or that the settings of the event need to be adjusted.

Date and Time / Publish status: If there’s no mention of the event you want to broadcast to under the Broadcast to Event screen, you’ll want to check the dashboard of your admin console and ensure that the event has been created with the exact date and time you want. Also, be sure to check that you have published your event.

Past Event: If you see the event in the events page of the Brandlive mobile app but its font is not bolded, that means the event is set to a date and time that’s in the past. Make sure your event’s date and time is set to something that’s in the future or near future so that you’re able to select the proper event that’s in bold within the Brandlive mobile app.

Unable to Broadcast

When you’re unable to broadcast to your event after properly setting it up within the Brandlive admin console, there are certain factors you’ll want to investigate. Some of these are related to elements of the mobile device.

The device is not charged enough: Always be sure your mobile device is fully charged, or if able to, connect it to an external power source to keep it charged throughout the Brandlive broadcast.

Network Wifi: It’s also important to check your device wifi settings to ensure you’re connected to the functioning network that you want to be on. If you’re still having issues broadcasting, here are some other factors to consider:

  • Firewall - Even with a mobile wireless connection, you may need to stream test the environment you’re in, to make sure you’re not running into any firewalls. We recommend referencing the firewall settings article, to relay the firewall exceptions needed to your local network or IT team.
  • 4G/LTE Networks - The Brandlive App is able to broadcast off of 4G/LTE networks that are associated with your mobile provider, and at times this is the best way to broadcast, should you have the allotted data needed. However, if you’re in a setting such as a crowded trade show hall or crowded arena, you may not have a lot of bandwidth or data to use for streaming, since everyone around you might be running off the same network. Should you be in this situation and attempt to broadcast from the Brandlive App, you may experience buffering and stream drops during your broadcast, or you may not be able to stream at all. To avoid this, we recommend doing a test stream in the crowded environment you’re going to be in, to ensure your mobile broadcast runs smoothly and doesn’t drop. You can also contact your 4G/LTE network provider and look at options of running off of a dedicated network for your broadcast. Devices such as JetPacks and wireless bonding devices can give you the ability to stream without everyone else crowding up the bandwidth of the 4G/LTE network you’re on.
  • Wifi Networks - Just like 4G/LTE networks, Wifi networks can also experience bandwidth issues when there are a lot of people downloading or uploading data from their devices. When attempting to broadcast from the Brandlive App in this environment, you may also experience buffering and stream drops during your broadcast. When working with the local network or IT team of the venue or environment, you can also request a dedicated Wifi network for your broadcasting use, should they experience limited bandwidth issues on their networks.

Use of Mobile accessories

As referenced in our Mobile Packages article, there are many third-party mobile production accessories you can use with your mobile device when broadcasting with the Brandlive app, in order to enhance the quality of your mobile broadcast. And while there are accessories that are widely compatible with various iPhone and Android devices, there’s a chance your own mobile device may be unique and not compatible with such accessory. There could be a moment when you’re not getting audio into the mobile broadcast when using a certain adapter, or a certain headphone or microphone you’re using is not working on your mobile device.

It’s always best to check with both the manufacturer of your mobile device and the manufacturer of the mobile accessory to ensure compatibility of the mobile accessory.
